Hi. I'm a Realtor and I have S.O.S.

I admit that I have a bit of a problem with SOS or Shiny Object Syndrome. The beginning of a new year is probably when SOS is at it's worst. Everyone has an opinion on what new tech tool will change the industry this year and what can help you double your business. At the many annual conferences that take place early in the new year there are vendors everywhere ready to sell you the latest innovation. Realtors are the easiest target to sell to because there are so many of us, we are always looking for an edge and everything seems to cost the low price of $29 per month! Peanuts, right?!

As a member of the Millennial Generation (just barely), I love technology and can never wait long enough to explore the next gadget, program or whatever to see if it can enhance my business. Technology is good for business but only if it works for you. Before you dive into the latest CRM, iPhone app, website creator, etc. ask yourself these questions:

  • Can I manage this tool or technology effectively?
  • Will this help me provide value to my clients?
  • Will this help me save time so I can focus on what is important?
  • Is there something more valuable I can do with the money I would spend on this?

Money is not the only thing you lose on tools you end up not using or throwing away; time is also lost and that is your most valuable asset. Make sure you are not losing out on time you could be using to provide value to your clients. Also remember that most often the value you give comes from you, not your tech tools. The Law of Authenticity - The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.

That all said, I'm looking forward to heading down to Miami next week for the Leading Real Estate Companies of the World annual conference and I know there will be some good tech to experience and evaluate. I will let you know if I discover anything ground breaking!
